Canadian Federation of Medical Students – Global Health Program (CFMS)
The Global Health Program was created to provide medical students with global exchange opportunities, awareness of global health issues and an opportunity to exchange ideas and network with students across the country.
IFMSA-CFMS Exchange Program
Each summer, UBC medical students have the opportunity to participate in an exchange program offered by the International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA) and Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS). Students from first and second year can apply to complete either a research or clinical exchange in the country of their choice. More program information and application forms can be found at the CFMS Exchanges website.
The clinical exchanges offered enable students to travel to another country and perform the duties of a clinical clerk. While exploring the opportunities available to you (via the CFMS Exchanges link provided above), you may note that many countries restrict their program to “clinical students”. However, as UBC does not operate on a six-year medical school curriculum like those in Europe and Asia, first and second year UBC medical students are considered clinical students and are therefore eligible to apply to these exchanges.
Important: All UBC students participating in the IFMSA-CFMS Exchange Program are required to complete pre-departure training and participation requirements through GHI and the Medicine Undergraduate Global Health Program.
