GHI Workshop: Does Aid Work?, Dr. Michael Seear, February 5, 2014

Dr. Seear will be addressing one of the biggest questions facing aid at any level – does all that work achieve any measurable benefit? The discussion will include issues such as sustainability and outcome measurement.

Dr. Michael Seear first studied medicine at University of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He was subsequently a district health officer at a remote rural hospital. In 1982 he moved to Canada and took postgraduate training in Pediatrics at Vancouver and then further fellowship training in Toronto in respirology and intensive care.

GHI Workshop: HIV – A Global Perspective, November 13, 2013

This workshop is an exploration of the global HIV pandemic from the perspective of the developing world. We will examine the impact of HIV on sub-saharan Africa, and discuss progress to date in the global “war against HIV”. Emphasis will be placed on practical and ethical considerations in the diagnosis and treatment of HIV when working in a resource-limited setting.

Global Health Initiative: Refugee Health Workshop, October 9, 2013

Through a series of case scenarios, Dr. Maureen Mayhew will be discussing Refugee Health in Canada. Dr. Mayhew is a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC and Johns Hopkins School of Population and Public Health. She has 25 years of experience practicing medicine in a variety of settings including rural and remote, cross cultural, inner city, refugee health, public health and international public health.
