GHI Workshop: HIV – A Global Perspective, November 13, 2013

This workshop is an exploration of the global HIV pandemic from the perspective of the developing world.  We will examine the impact of HIV on sub-saharan Africa, and discuss progress to date in the global “war against HIV”.  Emphasis will be placed on practical and ethical considerations in the diagnosis and treatment of HIV when working in a resource-limited setting.

Dr. Richard Currie graduated from the UBC Rural Family Medicine Program in 2006, and went on to do an extra year of Enhanced Skills Residency Training in International Health.  After graduation he joined Medecins Sans Frontieres / Doctors Without Borders, completing four missions between 2008 and 2012. During this period he has worked in HIV projects in Kenya, Ethiopia, Central African Republic, Somalia and Chad. In December of this year Richard will be returning to Chad on a 6 month mission as Deputy Medical Coordinator. When not overseas Richard practices family and emergency medicine in Salmon Arm, BC.
