Are you interested in becoming involved in a global health project?
The UBC Global Health Initiative is a medical student run organization that hosts a series of educational workshops and several global health projects with faculty support and mentorship.
The recruitment night is an opportunity to gather information about the many global health projects and exchanges in which you can participate as a medical student. There will be speakers and information tables to allow potential applicants to gather information and make an informed decision about which project is right for them. We are very proud this year to have Dr. Gavin Stuart, the Dean of Medicine, as our keynote speaker.
Events will begin at 6:30pm with GHI team leaders available at tables in Latham Hall to answer questions and give information about their projects. The keynote address will begin at 7:00pm and formal presentations from each project will follow. Following the presentations, project leaders will be available for more questions in Latham Hall until 9:00pm.
Global health is about connecting study, research and practice across borders in order to improve health throughout the world. Global health highlights the importance of an integrated and holistic approach to the social determinants of health such as healthcare access, education, economic development, environment, agriculture, and business management on both a population and an individual level.
The demand for experiences and education in global health amongst students is increasing as globalization and communication brings people of the world together.
UBC Medicine Global Health Initiative (GHI) and the Division of Global Health are committed to strengthening global awareness on campus and to increasing international learning opportunities as a way of fostering global citizenship. UBC GHI provides opportunities, support, and guidance for education, research, and service activities, and demonstrates social accountability towards creating equity and reducing health disparities within our global community with a focus on sustainability.
