The first part is taking place this Thursday, January 6th and the second part will be announced shortly.
Community Needs Assessment Workshop Description:
This workshop will be beneficial to anyone who will be planning a global health project in near or distant future and will be of great importance to those planning their projects for the coming summer.
The workshop will address the following questions:
· How do we know what to do in Global health projects?
· How do we determine the health or other gaps in the community?
· How do we decide where we should focus our efforts?
· How do we find out what the community wants/needs or what issues are most important for the community?
Speaker Bio – Dr. Jane Buxton:
Dr Jane Buxton practiced as a family physician in UK for 7 years before coming to Canada and completing a community medicine residency in 1999. Currently she is a physician epidemiologist (in hepatitis) and harm reduction lead at BC Centre for Disease Control; an associate professor in the school of population and public health.
Her research includes quantitative as well as qualitative methods, often using participatory research – thus exploring local knowledge and perspectives to discover what the issues are for the population under investigation such as street youth, people who use drugs and women who have been in prison.
