UBC Primary Care Global Health Journal Club – Disease Eradication (Guinea Worm)

The next UBC Primary Care Global Health Journal Club will be May 30 at 6PM PST.

The journal club will focus on the concept of disease eradication (prerequisites, biological principles, social factors), as reviewed recently in the NEJM Paper. We will have a specific focus on Guinea Worm disease (GWD). Paper 2 overviews the GWD campaign, and Article 3 is a short bulletin on the most recent WHO update on GWD eradication.

We are very lucky to have as our guest Dr. Abdur Rab. He is an infectious disease epidemiologist and current Interim Director of the MPH program at Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, Western University, London, ON. He was head of the National Program for GWD eradication in Pakistan, and as such oversaw the first program in the global drive to eradicate GWD. He was subsequently head of the WHO in Sudan from 2006-2010, and engaged in the GWD eradication efforts in South Sudan.

As always the format is online, through an interactive medium called Adobe Connect, which can be found here.
