  • Parasitology
  • Public health

Through didactic lectures, interactive problem-solving discussions and practical laboratory teaching, attendees will learn:

  • a clinical approach to the evaluation and management of tropical diseases;
  • practical laboratory skills, with a focus on the identification of parasites important for the diagnosis of tropical disease;
  • public health principles and applications including outbreak management.

The course is taught by clinical faculty that have extensive experience with infectious diseases and tropical medicine, who are affiliated with the University of British Columbia and the BC Centre of Disease Control.

The course covers clinical descriptions and approaches to evaluation and treatment of tropical diseases, strategies for infection control within communities, and a focus on infections whose management makes a critical difference to survival.
