Description:
This is a two in one workshop in that it will cover two different topics (TB and Advocacy).
Dr. Cheryl McDermid will talk about TB, concentrating on its management and treatment, particularly in the low resource and global settings. She will also address drug resistant TB and HIV/TB co-infections. The concentration will be on working with populations/communities with high prevalence of TB in terms of education/prevention, approaches to management and other issues.
Our CFMS Global Health Advocates (Saama and Nancy) will be talking about the different types of advocacy and the role students have in advocacy (especially health care students). Additionally, they will run a letter-writing workshop with the participants. This will give the participants a chance to polish their skills, get suggestions and gather strategies for fast and effective advocacy techniques.
