Next week, GHI will be presenting our last workshop of the year on nutrition. This interactive workshop will be led by Dr. Judy McLean. This presentation is open to all and is part of the GHI Workshop Curriculum (mandatory for project participants).

Presenter Bio and Description:

This workshop will feature Dr. Judy McLean, an expert in world nutritional issues.  The workshop will address the key issues affecting nutrition in low-resource communities, common mistakes that international workers make when implementing nutritional programs, and also introductory approaches to improving a community’s nutritional status.

Dr. Judy McLean is a UBC professor specializing in nutritional status and household food security in ethnic minorities, women, and young adults in developing countries.  Her teaching focus is on global problems in nutrition and food security; analysis of the political, social and cultural complexities of food habits and malnutrition in various cultures around the world as well as the relationships between diet and disease in both the developed and developing world. She has also prepared and presented introductory nutrition courses in Africa with attention to food availability, related nutrient deficiencies, as well as the cultural and socioeconomic factors that impact on food security in each region. She has collaborated with international organizations and governments, including the World Health Organization, on applied food security and nutrition intervention projects.
