The next GHI workshop will be an introduction to “International Nutrition” with Judy Mclean and Crystal Karakochuk.
Judy McLean is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems with a focus on International Nutrition. Her work is focused on improving maternal, infant and child nutrition through scalable, evidence-based approaches with an emphasis on reducing micronutrient deficiencies. She works with the UN organizations and NGOs involved with nutrition in Rwanda, Zambia, Cambodia and other countries on intervention projects ranging from home based fortification with micronutrient powders to integrated homestead food production and nutrition education programs. She has also designed the nutrition curriculum for post-graduate education in Cambodia and Mongolia and developed national policy for preventing micronutrient deficiencies.
Crystal Karakochuk is a Registered Dietitian with over 10 years of experience in clinical pediatrics, community based nutrition programming and international nutrition. She has worked internationally with the UN World Food Programme (Rwanda, Malawi, Ethiopia, Italy HQ) and UNICEF (Timor-Leste). Her research interests include food and nutrition programming to reduce maternal and child undernutrition, infant and young child feeding, and micronutrients.
