Global Health Initiative Workshop: Health Systems and Resilience

Come to our third GHI workshop featuring Dr. Ali Okhowat as our presenter on Health Systems and Resilience on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 pm at the MSAC Hardwick Hall! Dr. Okhowat is a physician, bioethicist, and humanitarian worker who is interested in the application of health technologies to a variety of sectors, from humanitarian action to personal well-being. There will be FREE PIZZA for all participants starting at 5:30 pm, please sign up below so we can estimate the number of participants.

Healthy Diets and Sustainable Food Systems

Speaker: Dr. Hasan Hutchinson is the former Director General for the Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion at Health Canada and the lead on the most recent Canada Food Guide.  Combining sustainability with healthy eating, the Canada Food Guide aligns with the recent  EAT-Lancet Commission on Food, Planet, Health guidelines and advocates for a planetary health diet.

UBC and BC Children’s Hospital Global Health Conference

On Wednesday, January 22nd from 12 – 6 PM, SPPH and the Centre for International Child Health are hosting our second annual UBC and BC Children’s Hospital Global Health Conference at BC Children’s. The theme of this year’s conference is Human Resource for Health, ‘Resilient and Responsive Health Systems: The Role of Health Workers’.  https://www.bcchr.ca/global-health-conference

We will have two speakers, Dr. Stephen Rulisa the Dean of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy at the University of Rwanda, who played a central role in implementing the Human Resources for Health Program, a joint initiative between the Government of Rwanda and the US Clinton Health Initiative and Dr. Tim Evans, the inaugural Associate Dean of the School of Population and Global Health in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University, formerly with the World Bank and the WHO.

Additionally there will be two expert panel discussions Panel 1: Addressing equity in the global health workforce along the continuum of care and Panel 2: Human resources for health through conflict and recovery.
