Nicaraguan Children’s Foundation – recruiting students and residents

The Global Health Initiative at UBC is forming a partnership with the Nicaragua Children’s Foundation. This charity, based in Vancouver, sponsors three schools in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. The Nicaragua Children’s Foundation has asked us to partner with them to improve the health of the community, focusing on the children at these schools. One of these schools provides education for children with special needs.

We are looking for residents and medical students who are interested in joining this exciting project. Those who join us will have the opportunity to help in development and planning of the community needs assessment project, as well as traveling to Nicaragua to implement the needs assessment. Applicants will need to be: capable of working with minimal supervision, comfortable living and working in an under-resourced environment, willing to explore and understand the local context and perceptions of health care and available to join the on-site portion of the project in Nicaragua from the 11th to 29th of April. Knowledge of Spanish is an asset, but not a requirement. For more information and how to apply visit our elective database description of the Nicaraguan Children’s Foundation.  If interested please contact Mark Masterson at mfmaster@interchange.ubc.ca
